In Salah Province

In Salah Province is an administrative region in southern Sahara, Algeria, covering approximately 131,000 square kilometers. The territory contains two districts and three municipalities organized under a centralized administration.

The province was created in 2019 through a reorganization of Algeria's administrative divisions after being separated from the larger Tamanrasset Province. This division established an independent administrative unit in central Sahara.

The name reflects Arabic and regional influences, with In Salah deriving from the term meaning good spring in the local language. Traditional ways of life remain visible throughout the region, adapted to desert conditions.

Government services operate from the city of In Salah, which serves as the main hub for visitors needing administrative or practical assistance. Traveling through this region requires careful planning due to limited infrastructure across the vast territory.

The province holds one of the lowest population densities in North Africa, with most of the territory remaining as uninhabited desert. This extreme sparseness makes it one of the most isolated administrative regions in the area.
