Fraser Tombs

The rock-cut burial chambers extend along three kilometers near Tihna el-Gebel village, featuring carved hieroglyphics and statues from ancient Egyptian periods.

The tombs, discovered in 1853 by Heinrich Brugsch, were documented by George Willoughby Fraser during the nineteenth century expeditions to Upper Egypt.

The tombs belonged to stewards of royal estates who served as priests of Hathor, indicating the religious importance of the region during Fifth Dynasty.

Visitors need to arrange transportation with police escort to access the tombs, which are located ten kilometers northeast of Al Minya.

The tomb of Ny-ka-Ankh contains a written authorization specifying the transfer of authority to his eldest son, revealing ancient inheritance practices.
