Pyramid of Zawyet el-Maiyitin

The Pyramid of Zawyet el-Maiyitin rises from the eastern bank of the Nile River, featuring four distinct levels with original limestone casing still visible in sections.

Built during the Third Dynasty of ancient Egypt, this step pyramid marked one of the proto-capitals and stands as evidence of early pyramid construction techniques.

The surrounding area contains rock-cut tombs from the Old Kingdom period, connecting the site to ancient Egyptian burial practices and religious ceremonies.

Located 245 kilometers south of Cairo in the Minya Governorate, visitors can observe the remaining 5-meter-high base structure and adjacent Muslim cemetery.

This structure holds the distinction of being the only pyramid constructed on the eastern side of the Nile River in ancient Egypt.
