Pharaoh's Island, Crusader fortress on Pharaoh's Island, Gulf of Aqaba, Egypt.
The island spans 3.9 hectares with a maximum width of 170 meters and reaches an elevation of 14 meters above sea level.
The Crusaders constructed the first fortress in the early 12th century, which Saladin later captured and rebuilt in 1170 to control routes between Cairo and Damascus.
The island holds multiple archaeological layers from Byzantine to Islamic periods, featuring remnants of ancient buildings and submerged port structures.
The fortress remains are accessible by boat from nearby coastal cities of Taba, Eilat, and Aqaba for archaeological and tourist explorations.
Underwater ceramic factories from Roman and Byzantine periods surround the island, providing evidence of historical maritime trade activities.
