Torre del Mar

Torre del Mar is a coastal town along the Mediterranean coastline featuring a beach promenade that connects numerous restaurants, shops, and accommodations. The town sits at an elevation of about 15 meters and spreads along the bay of Vélez-Málaga.

The settlement began in the 16th century around the Alcozaiba Tower, a Nasrid fortress built to defend the coast. This tower was later renamed Torre de la Mar in 1487 and has defined the character of the place ever since.

The September Fair showcases regional Andalusian traditions through local cuisine, music performances, and traditional dance celebrations. Locals gather to share their customs and way of life during this annual event.

The town is served by regular bus connections to neighboring municipalities and offers various lodging options from beachfront hotels to private apartments. Visitors can easily find a place to stay and explore the surrounding region at their own pace.

The waters offshore witnessed the 1704 naval battle between Franco-Spanish and Anglo-Dutch fleets during a major European conflict. This encounter ended without a decisive outcome and remains an important chapter in maritime history.
