Church of San Miguel, Cuenca

The Church of San Miguel sits on Plaza Mayor with three entrances opening onto the square. A grand staircase descends from the church toward the Jucar River below.

The original choir area dates from the late 13th century and still stands today. The rest of the building underwent major renovation work during the 18th century.

The Renaissance facade shows stonework that reflects how Spanish craftspeople worked in the 16th century. You can see local artistry expressed in every carved detail of the building's exterior.

The square sits among streets that slope steeply uphill and downhill, so be ready for uneven ground. The church is centrally located, making it easy to reach on foot.
