Santa María de Cayón

Santa María de Cayón is a municipality in Valles Pasiegos, a green region in northern Cantabria, and includes nine towns such as Sarón, San Román, La Penilla, and Argomilla. These settlements form a single administrative unit spread across valleys and hillsides in this rural area.

Santa María de Cayón developed as an administrative division that helped organize the scattered communities of Valles Pasiegos over the centuries. Its establishment brought structure to what had been dispersed rural settlements across the valley system.
