Parque Natural de la Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro, Natural park in eastern Córdoba Province, Spain.
Parque Natural de la Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro is a large forest area in eastern Córdoba Province with granite rock formations, meadows, and two rivers named Yeguas and Arenoso. The terrain shows typical Mediterranean vegetation with oak trees and other plants suited to the climate.
The Andalusian regional government established this protected area in 1989 to preserve the ecosystems and native species found here. Creating the park was a response to the need to protect natural resources from intensive exploitation.
The park is home to farming practices that work with nature: beekeeping, sheep herding, and hunting are part of daily life for people here. These activities shape how the landscape looks and show how local communities have lived here for generations.
The best access is through the town of Montoro, from where you can reach the N-420 road. Allow plenty of time as some paths through the terrain are steep and uneven.
The Venta del Charco area contains one of Andalusia's last remaining large stands of roble melojo oak trees. These rare trees shape the landscape of this zone and hold special interest for nature lovers.
