The bullring opened its doors on September 6, 1887, under the architectural vision of Justo Millán Espinosa, who incorporated eclectic design elements.

The arena maintains its position as a central venue for traditional Spanish bullfighting events while also serving as a space for concerts and performances.

Located at Ronda de Garay 48, the arena provides seating for 12,000 spectators and offers guided tours that detail the facility's architecture and history.

During a 2022 event featuring Peruvian bullfighter Andrés Roca Rey, a protester entered the ring, leading to a confrontation with arena staff.
