Puente Nuevo, Metal footbridge in Murcia, Spain
The Puente Nuevo spans across the Segura River with a central span of 46.80 meters and eight additional spans of 11.25 meters each.
Built in 1903 as the second bridge in Murcia, engineer José María Ortiz designed this iron structure with a construction budget of 592,982.95 pesetas.
The bridge's iron construction follows design principles established during the period of industrial architecture in Spain at the beginning of the 20th century.
Following restoration in 2003 by engineer Javier Manterola, the structure transformed from a vehicle bridge into a dedicated pedestrian crossing.
The bridge maintains its original parabolic metallic structure while the height access spans were removed during the 1960s Segura River channeling project.
