Puente de los Peligros, Stone bridge across Segura River in Murcia, Spain
Puente de los Peligros is a stone bridge with two arches that crosses the Segura River in Murcia. The structure connects the old town center to the Carmen neighborhood on the other side.
This bridge was built between 1718 and 1742 to replace an earlier 16th-century structure. The previous crossing had been destroyed by a major flood in 1701.
A wooden statue of Our Lady of Hazards sits in a niche on the southern side, where the bridge takes its name from this holy figure. Local people continue to acknowledge this spiritual presence as they cross.
The bridge is walkable from the city center and serves both vehicles and pedestrians daily. You can enjoy views of the Cathedral and the Glorieta square while crossing.
Metal structures were added in 1850 and 1867 to widen the sidewalks. This engineering change made it the first permanent crossing in Murcia able to survive periodic flooding.
