Igrexa de San Miguel de Bouzas, Catholic church in Bouzas, Vigo, Spain.
Igrexa de San Miguel de Bouzas is a church with a rectangular layout and semicircular apse in Bouzas, Vigo. The granite building features a gabled roof, a bell tower positioned at one side of the facade, and displays heraldic emblems.
The original church was destroyed in 1589 by English privateers led by Francis Drake. A new building was constructed in 1596 under the commission of Captain Alvaro Correa.
The interior displays religious artworks including a Christ statue and paintings depicting miraculous fishing scenes. These works reflect the deep connection this place holds for local fishing communities and seafaring traditions.
The building is easily accessible from the main street near Adro beach area. Visitors should note that the church holds regular services and can be entered during visiting hours.
The church originally stood on a small peninsula that extended into the sea. Land reclamation projects have shifted its position so it now sits inland, far from the water's edge.
