Iso-Heikkilä Observatory

The observatory contains a 15-centimeter refractor telescope in one of its two 6-meter domes, positioned in an east-west alignment at 20 meters elevation.

The facility, constructed in 1937 under Professor Yrjö Väisälä's direction, served as the University of Turku's astronomy department until its transition to amateur use in 1972.

The observatory maintains a specialized library of astronomical resources while hosting regular public stargazing events through the Turun Ursa amateur astronomers association.

Located at Pohjantähdentie 7 in Turku, the facility provides access to telescopes and astronomical equipment for members of the local astronomy community.

Researchers at this location discovered 807 minor planets and seven comets before urban development restricted visibility for low-sky observations.
