The Fibonacci Sequence 1-55 extends 35 meters high on a 100-meter industrial chimney, displaying red-orange neon numbers from the mathematical sequence.
Italian artist Mario Merz created this installation in 1994 as the first piece for the environmental art project Turku - European Sculpture City.
The numerical sequence represents the mathematical definition of beauty in Western culture, with each number being the sum of two preceding ones.
Turku Energia maintains the neon light installation and covers its electrical expenses, ensuring the artwork remains visible throughout the year.
The sequence of numbers 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, and 55 forms the largest public artwork ever created by Arte Povera artist Mario Merz.
