S/Y Daphne, Museum ship and ketch in Turku, Finland
The S/Y Daphne is a wooden sailing vessel displayed at the Forum Marinum maritime museum in Turku. The boat measures about 12 meters long and shows the classic design of a mid-20th century sailing ship.
The vessel was built in 1935 at Turku Shipyard and originally designed as a gaff-rigged schooner. During the 1940s, it was converted to a ketch design under new ownership, giving it the shape we see today.
The boat is closely connected to author Göran Schildt, who wrote several books about his sailing adventures. Today, visitors can understand how this vessel became a symbol of modern ocean travel and inspired people to explore the seas.
The vessel is located at Forum Marinum museum right along Turku's waterfront, making it easy to find. The site is near a restaurant and well-positioned for visitors exploring the city's maritime heritage.
The boat survived a Caribbean hurricane in 1995, proving its strength in extreme conditions. After this experience, it was extensively restored and repaired at a shipbuilding school.
