Wilhelm Carpelan, Museum ship and minesweeper in Turku, Finland
The Wilhelm Carpelan measures 18.5 meters in length, 4.2 meters in beam, and features a draft of 1.5 meters with a displacement of 20 tons.
Built in 1915 for the Imperial Russian Navy as S1 Shrapnell, the vessel served the Finnish Navy until 1977 before becoming part of Forum Marinum maritime museum.
The vessel bears the name of the Carpelan family, a Finnish noble lineage that received its title at Turku Cathedral in December 1407.
The ship underwent multiple engine upgrades throughout its service life, progressing from an 80 hp petrol engine to a 180 hp engine for speeds up to 12 knots.
Between its decommissioning and museum acquisition, the vessel received palisander wood paneling salvaged from another ship during private ownership renovations.
