Harmonia, Steel fountain sculpture on Aura River, Turku, Finland.
Harmonia is a stainless steel fountain sculpture rising 6.3 meters above the Aura River, assembled from 280 hand-forged metal plates. Water flows through the work, creating a dynamic connection between the artwork and the river below.
The work was installed in 1996, placed on the foundation of a former harbor crane. This placement marks the shift from Turku's industrial past to its modern cultural identity.
The sculpture stands where a harbor crane once worked, showing how Turku used its waterfront. Today visitors can see how the city transformed its industrial past into a gathering place for art and reflection.
The sculpture is easily accessible from the riverbank and can be visited year-round, though water flows only from May through October. It is lit during darker months, making it visible even from a distance.
The metal surface was treated using specialized techniques that create a multi-hued sheen, shifting in appearance throughout the day depending on light and angle. This effect means the sculpture looks different with each visit.
