Jezreel Valley, Valley between Galilee and Samaria, Israel
Jezreel Valley is a broad lowland in northern Israel that spreads between Galilee and Samaria, bordered by the Gilboa range to the south and Mount Carmel to the northwest. The valley floor is mostly flat and open, covered with farmland that shifts between green fields in spring and golden crops in summer.
The valley has served as a natural corridor between the Mediterranean coast and inland regions for thousands of years, witnessing many battles throughout antiquity. In the 20th century, Jewish settlers drained swamps across the lowland and transformed it into farmland.
Both Jewish and Arab communities maintain agricultural practices in the valley, cultivating wheat, corn, and vegetables across extensive fields.
The valley is easy to reach by road and offers several viewpoints along the surrounding hills and ridges. Walking paths cross parts of the lowland and connect to archaeological sites scattered throughout the area.
The lowland sits on a tectonic rift that runs from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. This geological fault continues to shape the form and direction of the entire valley floor.
