Kundapura Taluk, Administrative division in Udupi district, India
Kundapura Taluk is an administrative division in Udupi district, Karnataka, bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west and river systems to the north and east. It covers a mix of coastal villages, river banks, and inland terrain.
The name Kundapura comes from the Kundeshwara Temple, built in the 10th century under King Kundavarma of the Alupa dynasty. The temple gave the area its identity long before the current administrative boundaries were drawn.
Residents speak Kannada, Konkani, Urdu, Malayalam, and Tulu, reflecting the diverse communities that shape daily life in the taluk. This linguistic variety is woven into the social fabric of the region.
National Highway 66 and the Konkan Railway connect Kundapura Taluk to major cities along the coast. The nearest international airport is in Mangaluru, to the south.
Kundapura Taluk has three natural water boundaries: the Panchagangavalli River to the north, the Kalaghar River to the east, and the Arabian Sea to the west. This means that on three sides, the land simply ends at water.
