Malda Museum, Archaeological museum in Malda, India.
Malda Museum is an archaeological museum in English Bazar housing sculptures, ancient coins, weapons, manuscripts, and terracotta plaques from different periods of Bengali history. The collection spans objects created over more than 1500 years.
The museum was founded in 1937 within the Malda District Library and later moved to its own dedicated building under the West Bengal Directorate of Archaeology. This move helped protect and properly display the growing collection.
The exhibits show how people in Bengal lived and built over the centuries, with objects reflecting the tastes and skills of different times. Visitors can observe how craftsmanship and artistic traditions changed as centuries passed.
The museum is located on Subhankar Bandh Road in English Bazar and is easy to find in the town center. Staff members offer guided tours and educational programs about local history throughout the year.
The collection includes inscription tablets from when nearby Gour and Pandua served as capital cities of Bengal. These rare objects offer a direct window into the political power of these historical centers.
