Khorramabad

Khorramabad is a city nestled in a valley of the Zagros Mountains at about 1147 meters elevation, serving as a connection between Tehran and the Khuzestan region. The settlement spreads across varied terrain shaped by surrounding mountain passes.

The settlement was founded as Khaidalou during the Elamite period and later became Shapur-Khwast under Sassanid rule when a fortress was constructed. These early developments established its strategic importance as a control point in the mountain regions.

The city is home to several language communities whose differences shape the local identity and are visible in daily interactions. Visitors notice this diversity through conversations and encounters with residents from various backgrounds.

An airport is located about 3 kilometers south of the center and connects the city through regular domestic flights to other Iranian cities. For travelers arriving by plane, the journey to the center is relatively short.

The Brick Minaret is a cylindrical tower about 30 meters tall that combines architectural elements from two different periods. Its design displays geometric patterns that reflect the artistic connections between two historical style eras.
