Mals

Mals is a commune in the upper Vinschgau Valley situated at 1051 meters (3448 feet) elevation, surrounded by Alpine peaks and vast fruit orchards. The settlement spreads across relatively flat terrain with farmhouses, small villages, and open meadows.

Settlements in the Mals area show traces of continuous occupation from Roman times through the medieval period, indicating long-term human presence. During the Middle Ages, the territory fell under the rule of the Prince-Bishopric of Brixen.

The residents of Mals speak German in daily life, though Italian names and traditions appear in official settings and local institutions. This bilingual character shapes how the town looks and operates from day to day.
