Innere Quellspitze, Mountain summit in Ötztal Alps, Austria
The Innere Quellspitze is a 3,516 m summit in the Ötztal Alps, on the Schnalskamm ridge close to the Weißkugel, exactly on the border between South Tyrol and Tyrol. From its top the Saldurkamm branches south toward the Äußere Quellspitze (3,385 m). The photograph shows a rounded snow-covered top with dark rock bands, bare scree flanks cut by gullies, and a broad glacier tongue flowing down the lower left face toward a shadowed valley floor.
The name Innere Quellspitze is of recent mountaineering origin, since the local dialect uses Brunnen rather than Quelle for a spring. The peak lies exactly on the border between Italy's South Tyrol and Austria's Tyrol, where the Saldurkamm branches south from the Schnalskamm toward the Äußere Quellspitze (3385 m).
The name Innere Quellspitze is of recent mountaineering origin: the local dialect uses Brunnen rather than Quelle for a spring, so the standard-German "Quell" was applied by climbers. The Italian name, Cima della Sorgente di Dentro, mirrors it across the border. The Saldurkamm branches south from the summit toward the Äußere Quellspitze (3385 m).
Climbing to the summit requires mountaineering experience and full technical equipment including safety gear and navigation tools. Start early in the day to ensure adequate daylight, and always check local weather forecasts before heading out.
The summit sits exactly on the border between Austria and Italy, marking a point where two countries meet at the same elevation. This position makes the peak a natural boundary marker between these nations.
