Guidonia Montecelio, Administrative division in Metropolitan City of Rome, Italy.
Guidonia Montecelio is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Rome, located northeast of the Italian capital. The town spreads across flat ground between Via Nomentana and Via Tiburtina, with residential districts and industrial areas side by side.
The first written record of the settlement dates to 998, when it was called Castrum Monticellorum. The modern municipality formed in 1937 by merging several hamlets during the industrialization of the region.
The Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Guidonia Montecelio demonstrates the region's involvement in international sports by hosting the 2023 Ryder Cup.
Regular train connections and roads lead directly to Rome, with the journey taking less than an hour. The area suits travelers who prefer staying outside the city center while keeping access to the capital.
The area hosts extensive travertine quarries that have been worked since ancient times. Many Roman monuments, including the Colosseum, were built partly using this local stone.
