Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Golf course in Guidonia Montecelio, Italy
Marco Simone Golf and Country Club is a golf course in Guidonia Montecelio, roughly 40 minutes by car from Rome's historic center. The competition layout spreads across gently shaped terrain with views toward the surrounding hills and the city skyline.
Architect Jim Fazio designed the original course in 1989 on a rural site with minimal existing facilities. The layout was completely renovated in 2020 to serve as host venue for the 2023 Ryder Cup.
The club reflects contemporary golf architecture while drawing from the surrounding Roman countryside and its traditional estates. Members often spend time over lunch at the clubhouse afterward, continuing the Italian custom of sharing meals together following physical activity.
The course features natural changes in elevation and open areas exposed to weather conditions, requiring standard golf equipment. The clubhouse provides changing facilities and on-site dining, while practice areas are accessible to golfers of all skill levels.
Seven holes feature water hazards positioned alongside genuine ancient Roman ruins from the first century BCE. Golfers often notice fragments of archaeological sites when playing across the fairways.
