Basilica Aemilia, building in Roman Forum, Italy
Basilica Aemilia was a large government building that once stood in the Roman Forum. The structure, built from marble and travertine blocks, is now reduced to scattered ruins and stone remains visible among the other ancient sites.
Built in the 2nd century BCE, this structure served as a center for commerce and administration for centuries. It suffered damage from fires and warfare before being abandoned during late antiquity.
The ruins are located within the Roman Forum and can be visited year-round, though the ground is often uneven. Wear sturdy shoes and watch your step when walking among the scattered stones.
Some stones still show scorch marks from ancient fires, giving a raw impression of the building's destruction. These dark stains and charred surfaces make the violence of past events physically visible.
