Founded in 1191 by Matteo d'Aiello, chancellor of King Tancred, the basilica was transferred to the Teutonic Knights in 1197 until 1492.
The church interior displays numerous 17th-century artworks, including a marble altar and religious sculptures that reflect Sicily's artistic traditions.
Located at Piazza Magione 44, the basilica opens daily from 9:30 AM to 6:30 PM, with guided tours available for the church and cloister.
The northern section contains a cloister with two original arcaded corridors supported by paired columns featuring detailed stone capital carvings.
