San Patrignano, Therapeutic community in Coriano, Italy.
San Patrignano is a rehabilitation community for substance dependency located on the hills between Coriano and the Adriatic coast. The site consists of multiple buildings, workshops, fields and residential areas where participants and staff live together.
Vincenzo Muccioli founded the center in 1978 to offer free recovery for people with severe dependencies. Over the following decades, the community grew and developed a long-term program focused on social reintegration.
Residents work in workshops and businesses within the grounds, learning trades such as carpentry, winemaking or hospitality as part of their daily routine. This vocational training prepares participants for independent life after leaving the program.
The program typically lasts three to four years and includes a phase for reintegration into society. Participation is free of charge, and prospective residents should inquire about the admission process in advance.
Studies show that between 72 and 78 percent of participants remain abstinent two to four years after completing the program. This success rate is attributed to the long-term approach and the integration of vocational skills into the recovery process.
