Ponte di Confine, International footbridge at Italy-San Marino border, Serravalle.
Ponte di Confine is a steel suspension bridge spanning 20.7 meters and standing 5.8 meters above ground, connecting Cerasolo to Dogana. The narrow crossing measures 2.4 meters wide and allows pedestrians to move between Italy and San Marino.
Architect Giancarlo De Carlo designed this bridge together with Antonio Troisi and Paolo Haigh Castiglioni, completing it in 1995. The structure was built to serve as a modern border crossing solution between the two countries.
Four colorful glass eyes created with illustrator Anna De Carlo decorate the bridge and turn it into a visible artwork between the two territories. This playful touch gives the functional crossing a surprising artistic character.
The bridge is designed for pedestrians and is monitored by border officials from both Italy and San Marino. Visitors should expect standard border checks and carry valid identification documents.
The bridge appears in the first episode of Lupin III - Italian Adventure, where San Marino is incorrectly depicted as a kingdom. This gives it an unexpected connection to popular culture and shows how real locations appear in anime storytelling.
