San Pietro in Mavino church, Romanesque church in Sirmione, Italy

San Pietro in Mavino is a Romanesque church in Sirmione featuring three semicircular apses and a rectangular floor plan defined by plastered walls and traditional wooden roof framing. The structure displays the typical medieval style with emphasized apses on the eastern side.

The church was established in the early medieval period and received a bell tower approximately 300 years later. Subsequently, frescoes were added that expanded the artistic decoration throughout the interior.

Inside, you find several religious artworks created at different times, showing how the church was decorated and updated over many centuries. These pieces reflect the artistic changes that happened in the region during this long period.

The church sits roughly one kilometer from Sirmione center and is reachable on foot. Entry is free, and visitors can explore the interior during regular daylight hours.

The name comes from an old term for vineyards situated on higher ground, reflecting the location's position in the landscape. This historic naming connects the church to the earlier use of the land.
