Temple of Venus Genetrix, Roman temple in Forum of Caesar, Rome, Italy
The Temple of Venus Genetrix features eight marble columns on its front and sides, positioned at the northwestern end of Caesar's Forum.
Julius Caesar dedicated this temple in 46 BCE after his victory at Pharsalus, placing it as the centerpiece of his new forum complex.
The temple contained numerous artworks, including a statue of Venus by Arkesilaos and two paintings by Timomachus depicting Ajax and Medea.
The remains of the temple display concrete podium foundations and traces of the apse, accessible through the Imperial Forums archaeological area.
Caesar once received the Senate while seated in the center of the temple's podium, positioning himself as a living deity among the senators.
