Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes

The Rhaetian Railway spans 384 kilometers through the Alps, featuring 13 tunnels and 52 viaducts across steep mountain passes and valleys.

The railway construction began in 1889 between Landquart and Klosters, with the Albula section completed in 1903 and Bernina section in 1910.

The railway stations along the route display architectural elements that integrate local Swiss and Italian building traditions from alpine communities.

Trains operate year-round between Tirano and St. Moritz, crossing the Bernina Pass at 2,253 meters with panoramic cars for mountain views.

The Landwasser Viaduct stands as an engineering masterwork, where trains curve directly into a mountain tunnel after crossing a 65-meter high stone arch.
