Archivio di Stato di Siena, State Archive in Palazzo Piccolomini, Siena, Italy.

The State Archive occupies multiple floors of Palazzo Piccolomini, featuring twin windows and Renaissance architectural elements at the corner of Via Banchi di Sotto.

Established in 1858 under Tuscan Grand Duke Leopold II, the archive preserves documents from the Republic of Siena through its incorporation into Tuscany.

The archive maintains 105 Biccherna tablets, painted wooden covers of financial records dating from 1258 to 1700, displayed in a dedicated museum section.

Researchers and visitors can access the archive's collection of 21,450 volumes and 277 periodicals at Via Banchi di Sotto 52 in central Siena.

The building underwent an interior transformation in 1887 by Giuseppe Partini to accommodate the extensive document storage requirements of a state archive.
