Palazzo Sansedoni, Siena

Palazzo Sansedoni is a palace on Piazza del Campo with a brick facade and distinctive Gothic windows facing directly across from the Palazzo Pubblico. The building was created by joining together several older structures into a unified architectural form.

Construction of this palace began in the mid-13th century by merging five separate residences into one large structure. Master masons completed the project in the early 14th century.

The interior spaces show decorative works from the 17th and 18th centuries by prominent artists that shape how the rooms appear today. These artworks form part of the building's visual character and influence how visitors experience the spaces.

This palace is currently used by the Fondazione Monte dei Paschi di Siena for offices and exhibition spaces, so access may be limited. Visitors should check beforehand whether tours or exhibition access are available.

The tower of this building was deliberately built shorter than the neighboring Torre del Mangia to maintain the square's architectural hierarchy. This deliberate choice reveals how carefully the medieval city planned its visual proportions.
