Church of San Bernardino, Renaissance church in Urbino, Italy
The Church of San Bernardino features a high narrow facade with decorative bands and a travertine portal flanked by two gabled windows.
Francesco di Giorgio designed this church in 1491 to serve as a mausoleum for Federico da Montefeltro, the Duke of Urbino.
The interior contains black marble tombs of Federico da Montefeltro and his son Guidobaldo I, with marble busts crafted by sculptor Girolamo Campagna.
The church opens on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for tour groups, situated two kilometers from central Urbino near the Cesane wood.
Until 1811, the church housed the Pala di Brera painting by Piero della Francesca, which French forces removed during the Napoleonic Wars.
