The church construction began in 1870 when local residents decided to build a place of worship in the Guardia district for summer religious services.
The interior holds a significant painting from 1877 by Sicilian artist Antonino Gandolfo, depicting Madonna with angels against the backdrop of Catania Cathedral and Mount Etna.
The parish church serves over 7000 members and functions as a central religious institution in the Guardia neighborhood of Catania.
The building underwent an expansion in 1903 from its original circular shape and required restoration after sustaining damage during World War II.
