San Pietro a Corte, Archaeological complex in central Salerno, Italy
The archaeological site contains four main sections including Roman thermal baths, an early Christian church, a Lombard palace chapel, and a medieval public palace.
In 774, Duke Arigis II of Benevento established this governmental palace in Salerno, incorporating existing Roman structures to support additional floors.
The frigidarium room transformed into a Christian gathering space in the 5th century, with a cemetery church established by Socrates, a Byzantine Salerno official.
The complex remains open for visitors throughout the year, offering educational programs and guided tours through the various archaeological layers.
The discovered inscription fragments contain individual letters carved in marble that were originally covered with gilded bronze, confirming the dedication to Arigis II.
