Ancona Lighthouse

Ancona Lighthouse is a modern navigational structure on Colle dei Cappuccini, built from concrete with distinctive vertical white and grey stripes running along its exterior. The tower includes two stacked balconies that offer views of the surrounding area.

The current structure replaced an older lighthouse from 1860 that was built under Pope Pius IX's orders. This replacement was part of efforts to modernize maritime navigation along the Italian Adriatic coast.

The lighthouse represents Ancona's deep connection to the sea and maritime work. You can see how important this seafaring tradition remains to the city's identity.

The structure is easy to spot from various points around the city and makes for a good destination if you want to explore the coastal landscape. The location is accessible and offers clear views of the Adriatic coastline.

The current lighthouse was intentionally built at a new location just a short distance from the original site. This relocation allowed for better positioning for maritime navigation while modernizing the facility.
