Monte Urpinu park, Urban park on Monte Urpinu hill, Cagliari, Italy
Monte Urpinu Park is an urban park set on a hill in the eastern part of Cagliari, Sardinia. The grounds are laid out with walking paths, children's play areas, sports zones, seating spots, and small refreshment stands, all arranged across the slopes of the hill.
The hill was first developed in the 1870s by a local baron as a private green project. The municipality later took over the land and opened it as a public park for the residents of the city.
The park is a gathering spot for families and friends from Cagliari, especially on weekends and holidays. People sit on the grass, children run around the play areas, and walkers stop to take in the views over the city rooftops.
The park is easy to walk through, though some paths on the upper slopes are steeper than others. On sunny days it is worth bringing water and sun protection, as shade can be limited in the more exposed parts of the hill.
The park has several small artificial lakes where swans and turtles live freely alongside the paths. Peacocks and geese also roam the grounds and often appear unexpectedly near benches or play areas.
