INAIL Tower, High-rise office building in EUR district, Rome, Italy.
The INAIL Tower is a high-rise office building in Rome's EUR district that stands out with its distinctive modern design and tall profile. It combines a travertine stone base with reflective glass facades that rise across 21 floors, creating a striking visual contrast.
The tower was built in 1965 as Rome entered a new phase of modern urban expansion, particularly in the EUR district. The site had been originally reserved for a 1942 world exposition, but developed decades later with a different purpose and vision.
The building represents a turning point when Rome embraced modern architectural approaches, moving away from classical design traditions and height limitations that had defined the city. This shift is especially visible in its open structural style and façade treatment.
Access is primarily for staff and visitors of the organizations based here, but the exterior is fully visible from public spaces. The best view of the entire structure can be appreciated from the south side of the building.
Architect Gino Valle carried out a comprehensive renovation that incorporated blue and white exterior elements, transforming its appearance while addressing structural safety concerns. This overhaul modernized the building without erasing its original character.
