Grattacielo Italia is an office building in the EUR district south of Rome's historic center with 20 floors and a height of 71 meters. The functionalist facade features repeated elements that make the building a defining point in this modern urban zone.
Grattacielo Italia was built in 1960 as the part of Luigi Mattioni's larger "complesso Italia" facing Piazza Guglielmo Marconi. At the end of 2015 it was renovated and took the commercial name Palazzo Italia. Since 14 January 2021 it has housed the insurance company HDI Assicurazioni.
The building marks Rome's shift from classical monuments to modern office spaces. It shows how the city embraced new functional architecture alongside historic structures.
The building sits on Piazza G. Marconi in the EUR business district and is easily reached by public transportation. The area around the structure offers plenty of space for exploring and photographing from outside.
The tower is only the Piazza Guglielmo Marconi front of a larger "complesso Italia" designed by Luigi Mattioni. Its facade alternates metal pilasters with aluminium shading panels. A renovation completed at the end of 2015 brought the commercial name Palazzo Italia and 16,542 m² of office space.
