Riserva naturale speciale delle Grotte di Pietrasecca, Regional nature reserve with caves near Carsoli, Italy
The Pietrasecca Cave Reserve extends over 110 hectares in the Piana del Cavaliere area, containing two major caves: Ovito Cave and Cervo Cave.
Archaeological excavations in the caves revealed 18 Roman coins from the 4th-5th centuries and animal bone remains from the Pleistocene period.
The University of L'Aquila and Italian Speleological Society collaborate with Carsoli Municipality to maintain and study these geological formations.
Guided tours of the caves are organized in three different difficulty levels, with tickets required at least 10 minutes before entry time.
The Cervo Cave stretches for 2500 meters with a 70-meter elevation difference, while Ovito Cave features 1370 meters of corridors.
