Santuario della Madonna della Civita

The Sanctuary of Madonna della Civita stands at 673 meters altitude on Mount Fusco, within the Aurunci Mountains chain near the Mediterranean coast.

The sanctuary's origins trace back to the 8th century when a shepherd discovered a painting of the Virgin Mary on an oak tree in this location.

The sanctuary holds a major celebration every July 21st, commemorating the protection from plague granted to local inhabitants in 1527.

The sanctuary receives approximately 500,000 pilgrims annually, with dedicated walking paths leading from Itri through seven consecutive Saturdays before the main feast.

The interior features a wooden choir from the 18th century, pipe organs from 1914, and numerous votive offerings displayed throughout the three naves.
