Spiaggia del Passetto

Spiaggia del Passetto is a pebbly beach along the Adriatic coast, framed by steep limestone cliffs and backed by a pine forest. The shoreline runs along the base of these white rock faces, creating a sheltered cove beneath the elevated landscape.

Fishermen carved grottos into the cliffs in the early 1900s to support their work along the coast. These cavities remain visible today and reflect the long tradition of fishing that shaped this area.

The white limestone rock formation called Seggiola del Papa serves as a natural gathering spot where visitors pause to take in views of the sea. People naturally gravitate to this landmark to watch the rhythm of daily maritime life along the coast.

The beach is accessible via a panoramic elevator or a set of stairs from the upper promenade, making access straightforward from the city above. Public bus lines 1/3 and 1/4 connect the area to Ancona railway station for visitors arriving by public transport.

A World War I memorial stands near the beach, marking a moment from the location's more recent past. This monument connects historical events with the everyday coastal recreation that happens here, showing how memory and leisure intertwine at this site.
