Hashimoto Station, Railway interchange station in Sagamihara, Japan
Hashimoto is a multi-level railway facility in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture, functioning as a terminus and interchange hub for several lines. The complex features seven tracks distributed across four platform faces, some configured as terminal platforms.
The facility opened on September 23, 1908, during the expansion of the regional rail network in Kanagawa Prefecture. Since then the complex has undergone multiple extensions and gained connections to additional lines.
The station takes its name from the old Hashimoto district and serves today as a key transfer point between different rail operators. Passengers switch here between JR East and Keio lines, with each company maintaining separate ticket gates and service counters.
The facility includes elevators and Braille timetable boards, plus staffed ticket windows. The station handles around 139,000 passengers daily, so visiting outside peak commute times in the early morning or late afternoon works better.
The location is designated as a potential stop on the planned Chuo Shinkansen maglev line, expected to begin service in 2027. This route would dramatically shorten travel times between Tokyo and Nagoya.
