Oyamada Park, Metropolitan park in Machida, Japan
Oyamada Park is a metropolitan park in Machida, in the western part of Tokyo, with separate areas for walking, sports, and play. The grounds also feature a pond, open lawns, and tree-lined paths that connect the different sections.
The park opened in 1990, when Tokyo was working to add green spaces to its more densely built western districts. Over the following years, facilities were added gradually to make it usable for a wider range of visitors.
The park is part of daily life for people in the neighborhood, who come here to walk, play, or simply sit outside. In spring, the cherry blossoms draw families who spread blankets and eat together under the trees.
The main entrance has restrooms, parking, and wheelchair rentals, so the park is easy to reach and move around in. There is also a nursing room for visitors with small children.
The pond inside the park hosts a range of dragonfly species during summer, flying in different colors above the water. You can watch them up close from the bank without walking far from the main paths.
