Nagaike Park, Nature conservation park in Bessho, Japan
Nagaike Park is a nature conservation area with three ponds - Nagaike, Tsukuike, and Sugataike - surrounded by streams, wetlands, and woodlands covering roughly 20 hectares. Together these water bodies and forests form a connected ecosystem within the grounds.
The main pond Nagaike carries an ancient legend about a princess who entered its waters with a Buddha statue in her care. The area later gained recognition for its natural features and was developed into a protected site.
The nature center shares educational programs about local plants and animals while showing traditional farming tools from the region. Visitors learn how agriculture shaped daily life here in the past.
The park is reached from Minamiosawa Station via a 20-minute walk or by using parking facilities at the south entrance and nature center. Marked trails throughout the grounds make navigation straightforward for all visitors.
Standing in the park is a relocated historical bridge from 1913 called the Yotsuya Mitsuke Bridge, which holds significance in the region's landscape tradition. This structure was moved to its present location to preserve it for future visitors.
