Takatsuki

Takatsuki is a large city in the northeastern corner of Osaka Prefecture, extending between hills and the Yodo River. The city connects older residential neighborhoods with newer commercial districts around the main train stations, while parks and green spaces break up the built-up areas.

The area was inhabited in prehistoric times, as shown by several archaeological sites. In the early 6th century, the Imashirozuka burial mound was built in the region to serve as the tomb for a powerful clan.

The name Takatsuki comes from the historic practice of keeping falcons for hunting in the area. The surrounding mountains to the north are still walked by hikers who discover traditional temples and smaller shrines along old paths.

The city sits between Osaka and Kyōto and is easy to reach by two major train lines. Around the train stations, many restaurants, shopping centers, and services make orientation straightforward.

The Settsu-kyo Valley Natural Park begins just a few kilometers from the busiest shopping streets. Hikers can explore forested gorges and streams there without traveling far into the countryside.
