Kani, Industrial city in Gifu Prefecture, Japan

Located in south-central Gifu Prefecture, Kani extends over 87 square kilometers with the Kiso River flowing through its northern section and eastern hills.

During the Edo period, the Kani region was divided between Owari Domain control and direct Tokugawa shogunate administration, with Nakasendo highway connecting Edo to Kyoto.

The eastern hills of Kani contain the origins of Shino Pottery production, while the central area holds the ruins of Akechi Castle.

The city stands 30 kilometers from both Gifu and Nagoya, serving as a residential zone for commuters with multiple railway connections and national highways.

The Flower Festival Commemorative Park contains 41,000 plants across 1,450 varieties, including an extensive Japanese Rose Garden with 7,000 rose types.
