Okutsugaru-Imabetsu Station, Railway station in Imabetsu, Japan.
Okutsugaru-Imabetsu is a railway station in Imabetsu, Japan, with two side platforms and tracks for high-speed trains on the island of Honshu. The facility connects underground to the neighboring Tsugaru-Futamata Station and forms a junction point just before the Seikan Tunnel.
The facility opened on March 13, 1988, as Tsugaru-Imabetsu and served local rail connections. In 2016, a full reconstruction took place to support the Hokkaido Shinkansen line, giving the building its current form.
Locals still refer to the facility by its original name despite the official change, showing how naming traditions persist in small communities. Travelers notice the rural setting around the platforms, shaped by the agricultural rhythm of the surrounding farmland.
Travelers should allow extra time for the underground walkway connecting the two station buildings, especially when transferring between services. The facility offers step-free access with elevators and clear signage for visitors with reduced mobility.
The facility stands as the final above-ground stop on Honshu before trains enter the underwater tunnel stretching more than 50 kilometers (31 miles). Within minutes of departure, daylight vanishes completely as the journey continues beneath the Tsugaru Strait.
